So, what did you think of last night’s Oscars?
“It’s the worst ceremony ever.” That’s what a lot of people said on the Internet. Seth MacFarlane “bombed terribly hosting the 85th Academy Awards” with his offensive, unfunny jokes. Michelle Obama’s surprising appearance made her husband look like a “cheap showbiz president.” The Oscar orchestra played “Jaws” music to cut off “Life of Pi” Best Visual Effects winner Bill Westenhofer.
For people like me who don’t own a TV, following live tweets is probably the best way to hear what people are talking about–things like who deserves or un-deserves that golden statuette, the best and worst dresses, who makes the best acceptance speech, etc. Actually, I did “watch” the show; I watched the New York Times’ live commentary, featuring David Carr and A.O. Scott, who were eating chips and cookies while competing against each other over who made the best bets. It was much better than the Oscars itself.
